to the hand of the person who could ring it as an alarm upon awakening.

Robert Vetch definition of death:

1) Irreversible loss of the flow of vital fluids and functions such as blood circulation
2) Irreversible loss of soul
3) Loss of the capacity of the body to regulate its own vital activities
4) Loss of capacity for social function due to irreversible loss of higher-brain functions

The Wari's believe that the dead still retains a personal identity. They believe that the dead live in underworld beneath the rivers and lakes where there is
no hunting or fishing because all animals have human forms there. However, to feed their children the dead emerge from water and return to life in the human
world as wild pigs that are hunted as food for the community.

Chapter 2 : Primal perspectives on death

Soul: the unseen innermost dimension of a person

South American Guajiro: to him the soul is like cotton fluff or smoke-like entity. The soul can move out of the body into the dreams and communicate with the
spirits of the dead. The soul of the dead is called yoluja.

Nanai: They think there are 3 types of souls : The soul at child birth, the soul of an adult and the "body-soul" that remains at the burial place after death.
The nanai also believed that souls also have personal limitations such as being careless or not having the ability to find its way back home and that is why the
nanai women call out for the souls of the children to be seated in the boat when leaving after fishing in the summer, lest anyone has been left behind.

Ob Ugrains: When a person dies, the grave-soul continues in a shadow like existence until his physical body completely disintegrates, at this point the "person" experiences
a second death in which he/she is transformed into a beetle, and after the beetle is dead (3rd) death, the person finally disappears with no trace.

The Kraho of Brazil also think in a similar way believing the soul takes a number of deaths each time transforming into a smaller animal, eventualy becoming a
rock or a root.

Fate of the soul:

Siberian people: The souls of the dead can feel cold and hungry, can also be too drunk on too much liquor

Egyptian soul theory:

A human being is a complex material. Broken down into 4 things: The body, 2 souls (ba) and (ka), the name of the person, the shadow.

Body:
Living called Khet
Dead called Khat

The dead body is transformed into a mummy called sah

Soul:

The ka soul is like a spirit double, that comes into existence at the time of birth. At the time of death, the ka soul continues to reside inside the mummified body. The
food and the tools present in the tombs are acutally to the ka soul for sustennance in the next life.

The ba soul leaves the human body at the time of death. This soul could travel far back and forth into the tomb

Name of the person: the name was not only an identifying factor but a site of personal power, prosperoity and well-being.

Shadow:the function of the shadow is not fully understood, it possess great speed and is mobile, it resides near the tomb and the body.

Transforming the body:

The body of the dead was mummified in order to transform it from death to eternal life. This was a significant event upon death, the process was done by the high end
priests associated with the jackal head god Anubis. The corpse is washed (purified), then the internal organs are extracted, then the body is dryed out with different
kind of salts. The body is packed with oils and sweet smeling raising, covering it with stripes of linen.

After this, the person has attained the status of akh (combination of ba and ka )
